Council confirmed Pamela Maxellan to the Board of Zoning Appeals on Feb. 3 after the mayor introduced her nomination and councilors voiced support.
Planning and zoning business reported to council included several land-use actions. Councilman Scott summarized planning commission decisions: a conditional-use permit for a tattoo shop at 13353 Snow Road (property owner Jacob DeJesus) was denied; a lot-consolidation request (parcels 34218005, 34207002, 34302003) was approved 6-0; a request to split/ consolidate a parcel into six new parcels for HSG BP Development LLC was also approved 6-0 and will be forwarded to council for final action, with staff asked to draft appropriate legislation.
Separately, the Board of Zoning Appeals reported three variances approved for a billboard on Parcel 34317008 on the main campus: approval that the billboard faces are not back-to-back, a variance for a 528-square-foot per-side sign under ordinance 1124.05, and approval of a digital-message variance.
Why it matters: The appointment fills a vacancy on the BZA and the planning/BZA actions shape near-term development and signage in Brook Park. The denied conditional-use application and the approved lot changes will affect how the properties may be developed or consolidated in subsequent council actions.
Next steps: Staff will draft legislation for the planning commission’s recommendations and the lot-consolidation measures will return for council final action; Pamela Maxellan will be seated as a BZA member.
