Council approves $62,500 county materials grant for road maintenance; ordinance 11515-2026 adopted

Brook Park City Council voted unanimously on Feb. 3 to adopt Ordinance 11515-2026, authorizing the mayor to accept a $62,500 reimbursement from the Cuyahoga County Department of Public Works for materials used on county routes.

Mayor Orcutt described the work covered by the grant as four road projects and said, “This ordinance right here certifies the acceptance of $62,500, for material that will be used” on projects including Cedar Point pavement resurfacing and repairs, Bridal Parkway resurfacing and joint repairs near Smith Road and Elm. He said the county letter (Exhibit A) identifies the projects and that the funding covers materials only; much of the labor and installation will be performed by city crews.

Councilman Scott, the finance committee chair, brought the item forward for placement on tonight’s agenda. Councilman Roberts moved to place the ordinance on the council agenda for first reading; the motion was supported and the placement vote was recorded as unanimous. The ordinance was thereafter read and adopted by roll call; the council recorded a unanimous vote in favor of adoption (6-0).

Why it matters: The materials reimbursement reduces the city’s out-of-pocket cost for scheduled maintenance on county-maintained routes inside Brook Park, allowing the service department to address surface repairs and drainage infrastructure without reallocating related operating funds.

Next steps: The ordinance has been assigned No. 11515-2026 and was adopted at the Feb. 3 meeting. Work scheduling and procurement of materials will proceed under existing service-department procedures, with projects performed on county routes as stipulated by the grant.
