Commissioners approve clinic lease, clear Pine Grove boundary, accept DSS phone MOA and routine consent items

At its July 11 meeting, the Macon County Board of Commissioners approved several administrative items, including a lease renewal for the Community Care Clinic, a boundary clean‑up for Pine Grove School, a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services for Department of Social Services telephone upgrades, and routine consent agenda items.
County Manager Derek Roland said an attorney had reviewed the annual lease renewal for the Community Care Clinic of Franklin and the board voted unanimously to approve the lease as presented.
County Attorney Eric Ridenour reviewed historical deeds for the Pine Grove School property, reported overlapping boundaries with neighboring parcels and said he had discussed the overlaps with the affected property owners (Highlands Luxury and the Statton family). Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the quitclaim deed exchanges to clean up the boundaries.
Sheila Conley, a Department of Social Services representative, summarized a state MOA that would reimburse the county $5,406 for telephone technology upgrades; the board authorized DSS Director Patrick Betancourt to sign the agreement and accepted the reimbursement.
The board approved the consent agenda (minutes, budget amendment, juvenile crime prevention plan, Scaly Mountain recreation agreement, grant project ordinance, tax releases, and monthly ad valorem report). The appointment of Vivian Honey to the Jury Commission was tabled and the board asked Clerk of Superior Court Shawna Lamb to discuss the commission’s role at a future meeting.
The board entered closed session under N.C. Gen. Stat. §143‑318.11(a)(3),(4),(5) and later returned to open session with no actions reported before adjourning at 8:28 p.m.
