Macon County approves $700,419 purchase for new mobile dental clinic

Setzer said the unit will be a fully functioning turnkey clinic with three operatories, dental equipment, chairs and a panoramic X‑ray machine; the board heard a purchase price of $700,419. Setzer said that price is about $169,000 less than an earlier figure cited to the board and that delivery is expected roughly 18 months after contract signature.
Commissioner John Young (first reference uses full name and title: Commissioner John Young) pressed staff on access for students in Nantahala Township; public‑health staff said the school system has historically bused Nantahala students to Cartoogechaye Elementary for services when needed. County staff estimated the existing unit’s salvage value at roughly $50,000–$60,000 now, and cautioned it will likely decline over an 18‑month lead time.
Commissioner Young moved to award the bid to Lifeline Mobile; Commissioner Shearl seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
The board did not set a separate disposal plan for the current unit during the meeting; staff said disposal value and timing will be addressed before the old unit is moved.
