Orange County board adopts resolution recognizing Pakistan Independence Day

Vice Chair Doug Chaffee introduced and the board adopted a resolution recognizing Pakistan Independence Day (Aug. 14) and the contributions of the Pakistani American community; community leaders from Friends of Pakistan and the Pakistan consulate spoke in support.
The Orange County Board of Supervisors on Aug. 27 adopted a resolution recognizing Pakistan Independence Day and the Pakistani American community in Orange County.
Vice Chair Doug Chaffee introduced the resolution, provided historical context for Aug. 14, 1947, and invited community leaders to address the board. He said Southern California is home to a growing Pakistani American community and described the day as an opportunity to learn about Pakistani heritage.
Supervisor Vicente Sarmiento and other supervisors offered remarks welcoming the Pakistani American community to Orange County. Arif Zafar Mansouri, chairman of Friends of Pakistan and a Fullerton planning commissioner, and Jamal Khawaja, president of Friends of Pakistan, thanked the board for the recognition and acknowledged local community organizations and business leaders in attendance.
Speakers emphasized the cultural, educational and economic contributions of Pakistani Americans in Orange County. The board accepted the resolution and proceeded to photos and other agenda business.
