Avery County board approves subdivision, property conveyance, lease and other routine items

The Avery County Board of Commissioners approved a batch of routine but substantive actions on June 3, including land use, property conveyance, contracts and funding plans. Highlights and votes are listed below.
Subdivision: Planning staff presented Phase IIA of the ‘1911 at Cranberry’ subdivision (lots 80‑84, 106‑107). The planning department certified that sedimentation controls were installed and road grades met the 18% maximum; the board approved the subdivision unanimously (5–0).
Lease: The board approved an updated lease with Linville Resorts permitting a fenced area at the Linville Recovery Site to be used for county and sheriff’s department vehicle and seized‑item storage. The motion passed unanimously.
Property conveyance: The board adopted a resolution conveying a 13‑acre tract housing the new Crossnore Elementary School back to the Avery County Board of Education after the securing deed of trust was satisfied. The resolution passed unanimously.
Funding and administrative approvals: The Juvenile Crime Prevention Council funding plan (total $88,523 with a 30% county match) was approved. The Finance Officer presented a budget amendment to allocate $15,496 in ARPA funds to Senior Services to offset increased food costs; the amendment was approved unanimously. The board also approved tax collection reports, two minute sets (April 24 and May 6), and consent items including the Avery County Transportation 2019 SSP System Plan, line‑item transfers and a jail inspection report.
