Avery County commissioners appoint William Costner to Fire Commission

The board used a ranked, signed ballot process after two applicants — William Costner and Matt McClellan — applied for the two-year seat. The board recessed briefly to tally ballots; Chair Tim Phillips read the results and the board then approved a motion by Wood Hall Young, Jr., seconded by Robert Burleson, to appoint Costner. The motion passed unanimously (5-0). The clerk recorded the signed ballots in the minutes for public inspection.
