Avery County approves appointment, tax reports and routine consent items

The board appointed Wood Hall Young, Jr. to the Avery County Transportation Advisory Board to fill a vacancy created by the retirement of Martha Hicks; the appointment passed on a 4-0 voice vote among members present at the time. Tax Administrator Andrea Turbyfill presented the December 2024 tax collections report showing $5,568,388.63 collected; the board approved the collections report and releases of $465.77. The board also approved the Dec. 2, 2024 minutes and adopted line item transfers by consensus.
Chair Phillips called a brief recess at 6:26 p.m.; the meeting returned and later closed after a public hearing and final motions.
