David Reep reported that the district replaced 25 devices, which were iPads, after a recent hurricane. For a full 1-to-1 deployment, Reep said proposed technology would use iPads for kindergarten through eighth grade and MacBooks for grades nine through 12.
Reep presented two vendor quotes: $1.4 million for the same devices previously used (a model the vendor plans to discontinue) and $1.6 million for new-model devices; both quotes include chargers and cases, and the second quote was valid through Dec. 20. Chair Tim Phillips suggested American Rescue Plan money might be an option to help fund the purchase.
There was no formal vote or procurement decision at the meeting; staff will continue to evaluate funding sources and options before returning with a recommendation.
