During new business on March 18 contractor Joe Bray told the commission that courthouse roof leaks are tied to a breaker box located below the roof deck and recommended relocating the breaker box to stop leaks. Bray told the commission he performed work per specifications and said the roof itself did not need replacement. Mayor Joe Brooks said he had been unable to reach Bray earlier and reported leaks on the third floor as well. Bray agreed to meet with the mayor or maintenance personnel the following morning to inspect the issue.
Commissioner Juanita Honeycutt moved to suspend rules to take action; the commission then authorized the county mayor to obtain estimates to raise the electrical box and granted him authority to proceed with the work if his budget allowed. The motion passed by roll call, 21–0.
Next steps: The county mayor will secure estimates to relocate the breaker box and, if funds are available, proceed with repairs to stop the leaks.
