The Claiborne County Commission unanimously approved Resolution 2018-096 on Dec. 17, 2018, limiting county commissioners to serving on no more than two committees or boards at a time. The resolution, sponsored by Commissioner Brent Clark, specifies the limit applies to both paid and unpaid committee or board members and explicitly includes the Planning Commission among covered bodies. It also directs that new appointments occur at the end of existing terms.
The measure was amended on the floor to expand coverage (including the Planning Commission and both paid and unpaid members) and to require that appointments be made at the end of current terms; the amendment carried 21-0 and the main motion as amended also passed 21-0. The minutes record the roll-call votes and the text of the adopted resolution.
Supporters argued the limit will give all commissioners an opportunity to serve on committees; the minutes record no minority report or motion to reconsider that evening. The resolution takes effect upon passage, per the text adopted by the commission.
