County orders independent glycol test after Parkview boiler leak

Staff reported that a newly installed boiler at the Parkview apartment complex developed a leaking combustion chamber and that the vendor, Northwest, declined warranty coverage after reporting that the system’s glycol was contaminated. County staff (S6) said he obtained independent samples — a glycol sample and a domestic water sample — and sent them to Snow Crest in Billings for an independent test "from somebody that has no dog in the fight." The county will review the lab results to determine whether the glycol or the boiler is at fault and whether the vendor owes warranty work.
County staff said prior new boilers had been warrantied when they would not fire and that the current vendor’s records need review; they also discussed the option of installing a replacement heat exchanger if testing shows chemical or mechanical failure. Commissioners instructed staff to await the independent test results, then pursue warranty negotiations or repair options depending on findings.
No formal motion or expenditure decision on repairs was made during the session; staff said independent test results should be available and that they would report back to the commission.
