Fallon County reviews lagoon restart plan and road projects as crews prepare for spring work

"We have to make sure we're running... and when we turn it on, we start pulling samples every hour or two," the road/wastewater presenter said, explaining a plan to pump to the pond, draw it down and use that volume for initial tests.
Commissioners and staff discussed whether to rechlorinate or dose high at startup and then back off if tests show acceptable residuals; one staff member recommended starting at a higher chlorine level and reducing once passing results are confirmed. Staff also expressed concern about sample transit time to the lab and suggested delivering samples in person if needed to ensure rapid analysis.
Separately, the road mapping lead presented a GIS and field‑app plan that would let road crews upload photos, document culverts and signage, and tie bridge inspection ratings into the county map. Staff gave a timeline for the 6th Street Box project — a tentative October 30 completion if bidding proceeds on schedule — and said the DQ permit for the project is under review. Equipment maintenance notes included preparing trucks and cemetery rigs for spring service and diagnosing a broken hood and a faulty tire sensor on Truck 162.
Staff said they will finalize sterile bottle orders, inventory sample supplies, and coordinate with Nathan and the state lab to set testing cadence before an anticipated spring startup.
