The Fallon County Commission accepted a recommendation from county engineering to award a box culvert replacement contract for 6th Street West to 7 M Services (Shepherd, Mont.) using the precast alternate. County staff reviewed bids and supplier information, and recommended the precast (alternate A) option to minimize on-site time and construction duration.
Speaker 10, who presented the bid review, summarized the low-bid and supplier details: "Their base bid fits very well ... Their bid was about $123,003.60 for the box ... My recommendation, just due to this experience as far as completing the structural, alternate b would be the cast in place ... for the price difference ... for the sake of getting it done fairly quick, ECP could have the box completed and ready for set by May," (Speaker 10). County staff recommended the precast installation as the most time- and cost-effective option. The commission then moved to accept 7 M Services' Alternate A precast box culvert installation for a total of $337,530.07; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Staff said they will draft the agreements and a notice of award and expected to have the contract documents circulated to 7 M Services within about three weeks; the contractor may set the box as early as May or delay to June or July depending on site conditions and weather.
Background and next steps: the award covers precast box cost, delivery and setting; staff noted additional dirtwork and final paving by a subcontractor will follow. The commission instructed staff to prepare contract documents, notices and permits and return any required signatures to the records file.
