Senate adopts Latino/Latina Advocacy Day resolution and confirms multiple appointments on consent calendar

Senator Benavidez moved House/Senate Joint Resolution HJR10-23 recognizing Latino/Latina Advocacy Day and asked that it be read at length. He described the history and role of the advocacy day, noting it has mobilized thousands of participants and provides young people an opportunity to engage with lawmakers. "These kinds of days are so exciting and so important because ... it is an opportunity for young people from across the state to come here and talk to us," Senator Benavidez said.

The resolution recited that Latinas and Latinos constitute 22.7% of Colorado's population and urged continued engagement; the Senate adopted the resolution by recorded vote (22 ayes, 12 no, 0 absent, 1 excused) as recorded in the session transcript.

Separately, the Senate considered and confirmed multiple governor appointments on the consent calendar. Majority Leader Rodriguez moved passage of the consent calendar, which included David Hughes of Denver for the CollegeInvest Board of Directors and Tiffany Pelham Webb of Denver to the Juvenile Parole Board; the chamber confirmed the appointments as read. The Clerk also read confirmations to the Colorado State University System Board of Governors (Elizabeth Markey, Louis Martin, Kenzo Kawanabe) for terms expiring 12/31/2029; those appointments were confirmed by the Senate as recorded in the session.

Those confirmations and the resolution were taken during routine floor business; several senators also used the time to make announcements about committee meeting schedules and community events.
