The Nemaha County Board of Equalization elected Commissioner Bryan Mellage as chairman and Commissioner Michael Weiss as vice chairman during its Jan. 15, 2025 meeting in Auburn.
Commissioner Michael Weiss nominated Mellage for chairman; Commissioner Mike Hall seconded the nomination. Roll-call votes were Weiss, aye; Hall, aye; Mellage, abstain, and Mellage was elected chairman. Mellage then nominated Weiss for vice chairman; Hall seconded. Roll-call votes were Mellage, aye; Hall, aye; Weiss, abstain, and Weiss was elected vice chairman.
The board also approved the meeting agenda and the Nov. 6, 2024 minutes on separate motions. Both procedural items passed on roll-call votes of the three commissioners. County Clerk Diane Johnson recorded the meeting and noted the posting of the Open Meetings Poster and availability of handouts to the public.
These organizational votes set the board’s leadership for 2025. No substantive policy actions were taken in this portion of the meeting.
