At a public hearing, county staff member Mr. Plackinger described the change as a reclassification of staffing after follow-up discussions with the superior court judge. "We re-advertised in the supplement 4 to reduce 0.3 FTEs from the juvenile court services fund, add a regular 1 FTE position within superior court — there's a net change to the general fund, 0.7 FTE," Mr. Plackinger said. He summarized the dollar impact as a $50,000 increase in superior court funding offset by a $20,000 reduction in juvenile court services for a net $30,000 to the general fund.
The amendment responds to operational changes the judge described: Wahkiakum (transcript spelling) County no longer provides administrative support that had previously assisted the judge, requiring more regular staffing in Pacific County. County staff and the juvenile court administrator had discussed the change before the hearing, and commissioners said they had the necessary background information from an earlier public workshop.
Commissioners moved and adopted the resolution by voice vote following the hearing. The motion record in the transcript shows the board indicated unanimous support; individual roll-call votes were not recorded by name in the public transcript.
Next steps: with the amendment adopted, the board also authorized posting and advertising for the related superior-court position (a separate personnel action later in the meeting).
