Pacific County approves new corner cameras and repairs to jail doors and systems

The Pacific County Board of Commissioners voted Sept. 12 to buy three corner cameras and to approve repairs and systems upgrades at the South County holding facility, saying the work is needed to restore reliable camera, intercom and door-control integration.
A commissioner moved to "approve the request to purchase 3 corner cameras from Long DVA Justice Systems" on the MRSC roster for $5,702.14, to be paid from cumulative reserve fund #197 subject to adequate appropriations; the motion passed with multiple ayes.
County staff described the cameras as replacements for 20-year-old, nonworking equipment and said the new corner cameras will "provide better view" for holding cells and courtroom sightlines. On a separate motion the board approved a $20,958 contract with Accurate Electric Unlimited for jail door repairs, camera switching, VOIP updates, card-issue fixes and PLC wiring; staff said Accurate had been the most responsive of three contractors, performed engineering and software analyses and proposed a plan to synchronize cameras, intercoms and doors.
The Chair expressed concern that much of the work stems from problems left by prior contractors and said he had "a little bit of heartburn" but supported proceeding to make the facility safer.
Why it matters: County officials said existing equipment no longer functions as intended and upgrades are required for courtroom and holding-area security and staff oversight. The board authorized using cumulative reserves pending formal budget appropriations.
Next steps: Staff will coordinate procurement and contracting and implement the repairs and camera installations; funds will be drawn from reserve fund #197 if appropriated.
