Pacific County approves $38,584 purchase of cooling units for three remote communications sites

Public works staff explained that the three sites — Holy Cross, Megler and KO — are among the county's most critical remote communications sites and that several units are nearly 20 years old. Staff said one unit at KO and one at Megler have already failed and that the equipment located at those sites needs cooling to operate reliably.
"The 3 sites, Holy Cross, Megler, and KO are 3 of our probably most critical sites," a public works staff member said, adding that two units per site are nearing 20 years of service and that they had solicited quotes from MRSC-roster vendors. Staff said Thermal Supply submitted the lowest price and that three bids were received.
Staff also noted some electrical and control costs are possible. They said a remotely monitored control can run about $300 (including wiring) compared with roughly $800 for a conventional thermostat, and that remote monitoring gives alarms and improved safety.
The motion directs procurement to proceed, subject to adequate budget appropriations. No roll-call with individual member votes is recorded in the transcript; the motion carried by recorded vocal ayes.
