Pacific County moves to switch fuel-card vendor after repeated WEX late fees

Pacific County commissioners on May 13 authorized county offices and departments to use PFLEET/Voyager in place of WEX Bank for the county fuel-card system, citing an ongoing pattern of unexplained late fees assessed to departments despite on-time bill submission.
A county staff member told the board, "We've had multiple offices and departments throughout the county incur late fees that are not the fault of the various offices and departments...bills that are paid on time, submitted to WEX on time that for whatever reason have been assessed late fees." Another commissioner added, "the late fees are, like, more than double what normal late fees are, and they absolutely will not budge, even when it's their fault."
As part of resolving the issue, the board approved administrative motions to authorize use of PFLEET/Voyager and approved two separate $75 waivers for personal financial responsibility tied to WEX-account late fees (one for Michael Rothman to be paid from the general fund county prosecuting attorney account and another for Gracie Minx to be paid from Public Health and Human Services special revenue fund 118). Staff credited county employees for working to find a replacement vendor and recognized specific staff for assistance.
The board instructed staff to proceed with the vendor transition and to monitor whether the move resolves the late-fee problem across departments.
