Pacific County approves South County road hire posting and renews phone system contract

Pacific County commissioners on April 3 authorized the county to post a job advertisement for a Road Maintenance Technician 2 to serve South County and approved a yearly enterprise license renewal for the county phone system in the amount of $5,650 plus tax and fees.

Why it matters: The hiring authorization aims to fill vacancies before the chip-seal season so new hires can be onboarded and trained; the phone renewal avoids service interruption when payment is due.

Commissioner moved to post the South County position (a Local 367 union job) and the Moderator seconded the motion. A staff member described current vacancies and said the intent is to onboard one or two new employees and give them time to learn Department of Public Works operations before major roadwork begins. "I wanna make sure I got some people here before we jump in the chip seal season so we have some time to get their feet wet," the staff member said.

Separately, the board approved a yearly enterprise license renewal for the county phone system totaling $5,650 plus tax and fees to be paid from the Equipment Rental and Revolving Fund (502-041), subject to adequate budget appropriations. Staff said the invoice arrived with a payment deadline and warned the county could lose phone service if payment was not made by the fifteenth of the month. "If they don't receive payment by the fifteenth, they will shut our phones off," the staff member said.
