“Our program is in the process of completing the baseline grant submission which is due to the office of Head Start on November 1,” Heidi told the commission, describing the narrative, budget, cost‑allocation plan and training and technical assistance priorities that support staff qualifications and classroom quality.
Heidi said the federal government shutdown has affected agencies that oversee Head Start and that the local program remains open and fully operational because current grant funds have already been awarded. “If the shutdown continues, we may experience delays in federal processing, including new grant awards, reimbursements, reporting, and communication from regional offices,” she said.
Commissioners asked about transportation costs for the program; Heidi clarified that the program pays salary for a transportation coordinator while the actual bus vendor expenses are billed elsewhere. The commission thanked the presenter and placed the grant application on the agenda for approval and feedback.
