Commission approves claims, public-health task order and fire-department amendment; sets hearing on animal ordinance

The commission approved a cooperative law-enforcement annual operating plan to fund lake patrols at Georgetown Lake ($5,000). It also approved a DPHHS-funded task order to add a 0.5 full-time-equivalent public health position (transcript references a roughly $56,000 figure tied to the program) to help the county respond to federal funding losses and sustain public-health services.
The Anaconda Fire Department presented an amended agreement that added an Advanced Life Support medications module. The fire chief said the amendment lowers the department's contract cost and adds ALS-capable medications (epinephrine and pain management), which could increase recovery through billing and improve field care. The commission approved that amended agreement.
Commissioners voted to set a public hearing for June 3, 2025, on Ordinance 277, which would extend the domestic-animal task force's review period from six months to 12 months. The commission also approved a special-event permit for the Smelter City Throwdown tournament at Marshall Park in August and appointed Kelly Marker to the Board of Health.
Finally, commissioners authorized issuing a Request for Proposals for redevelopment of the WK Dwyer School property after noting vandalism and deterioration at the site. Members said they will review any proposals and are not required to accept any submission.
The meeting closed after additional public comments urging the county to support Medicaid at the federal level; some residents asked the commission to place a supportive resolution on a future agenda.
