County approves DUI task force plan with new "Cheers to Sober Drivers" outreach

The Anaconda Deer Lodge County Commission approved the annual DUI Task Force plan after a presentation from Morgan (speaker 3), who outlined statewide and county-specific data and a new focus on prevention.
Morgan said a local prevention needs assessment among eighth-, tenth- and twelfth-graders showed increased reported access to alcohol and some occasions of underage drinking and riding with impaired drivers. To address that, the plan increases education and prevention activities alongside enforcement. A new line item funds a "Cheers to Sober Drivers" program designed to work with local bars and restaurants to encourage safe rides home.
Morgan told the commission that, if the plan is submitted on schedule to the Montana Department of Transportation, the county expects roughly $1,400 in state funding to help support the effort this year. County leaders emphasized that the task force funds are state-generated and not drawn from local taxpayers.
The commission moved and approved the plan unanimously so it could be submitted to the state.
