Board approves $1.29 million FY26 federal programs funding application

The Rockwood R-VI Board of Education voted to approve submission of the FY26 consolidated federal programs application for $1,294,686 and to appoint federal programs compliance coordinators.

Dr. Carrie Peters, the presenter introduced on the agenda, told the board the application bundles the district’s Title I–IV and Perkins allocations and that Title I funds primarily support targeted literacy interventions, staffing and supplemental instruction. “For Title I, that is the purpose of that is to improve basic programming… those funds provide supplemental instruction and support,” Dr. Peters said.

She told the board Rockwood uses federal funds to maintain literacy coaches and reading interventionists. The district has six literacy coaches, with two dedicated to Title I buildings (Baldwin, Bowles, Kellison and Westridge), Dr. Peters said. She also described using Title II for teacher support and Title III for English-language acquisition programs.

Board President Vidgett moved the motion; it passed by voice vote.

Why it matters: consolidated federal funding is a significant recurring revenue source that supports reading interventions, teacher development and English-language services across the district. Approving the application allows the district to pursue the FY26 allocations and to designate compliance staff required to manage federal grants.
