Mendon adopts wildland-urban-interface map and cooperative wildfire agreement

Mendon — The Mendon City Council took two measures Feb. 12 aimed at wildfire preparedness, unanimously adopting a wildland-urban-interface map and a cooperative wildfire agreement.
Mayor Ed Buist read Resolution 2026-01, which implements the 2006 Utah wildland urban interface code and places the interface map on file with the city recorder for public inspection; the step follows the Utah Legislature’s 2025 mandate in HB 48 requiring municipalities to adopt the 2006 code. Councilmember Brian Myers moved to approve R2026-01; the motion passed with all members present voting aye.
Shortly afterward the council considered Resolution 2026-02, a cooperative wildfire agreement covering 2026. Councilmember Bob Jepsen moved to approve R2026-02 and Councilmember Brian Myers seconded; the council voted unanimously to adopt the agreement.
The resolutions place the adopted code and map on file at the city recorder’s office for public use and commit the city to cooperative wildfire operations for the 2026 season. The minutes do not record additional implementing regulations or new expenditures tied to the agreements at the time of adoption.
