Hancock County committee approves animal-warden resolution, refers open-burning ordinance to outside counsel and clears routine claims

The Hancock County Health and Miscellaneous Committee on March 2 approved a resolution clarifying the duties and responsibilities of the county animal warden and unanimously voted to send the county’s open-burning ordinance to outside counsel for review and updating.
During the meeting the committee reviewed animal-bite reports and approved a resolution to clarify the animal warden’s duties; Michelle Merritt moved to approve the resolution, Mark Harrison seconded, and all members present voted aye.
Earlier in the meeting the committee discussed Ordinance 12-2007-38 (the prior open-burning ordinance). Steve Finney moved to send the ordinance to Justin Greeley with Bellwether for review and updating; Michelle Merritt seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
The committee also handled routine business: members voted to enter executive session at 7:18 p.m. to discuss personnel (motion by Merritt, seconded by Finney) and exited executive session at 7:32 p.m. (Merritt moved, Finney seconded); the minutes record no personnel actions. The committee reviewed and approved claims (motion by Steve Finney, seconded by Merritt) and recessed until April 6 (Merritt moved, Finney seconded). The minutes note the county is assembling a grant for Mary Miller’s office to complete the second part of Connable Road and invited letters to be sent to Elgin Berry in support.
All recorded motions were adopted on unanimous voice votes with all members present voting aye; absent members were Steve Lucie and Joe Boyles. The meeting adjourned at 7:47 p.m.
