Lima accepts gifts from Harima Cho after Sister Cities delegation returns from Japan

Lima City Council received gifts from Harima Cho, Japan, and heard a presentation from Lima Sister Cities about a recent youth cultural delegation.

Mayor Smith introduced Matthew Neely, president of Lima Sister Cities, who described a recent trip by local youth to Harima Cho and an exchange of cultural gifts. Neely said the delegation toured schools and cultural sites and presented a local artwork print to Harima Cho; in return the Japanese delegation sent a crafted, fragranced item intended "to remind you of your time in Japan." He invited council members to a presentation and picnic on July 26 where youth will share photos and reflections from the trip.

Council moved to receive the gifts and the motion was seconded and approved by the body by voice vote. The clerk recorded the voice approvals; the council later thanked the Sister Cities volunteers and acknowledged the youth participants.

Councilors and the mayor praised the program as a youth development opportunity and a boost to international ties. No funding appropriation was recorded in connection with the gift acceptance; the motion before council was to receive and file the gifts and related information.
