Lima City Council adopts resolution honoring community leader Jacqueline Tyree

Lima City Council adopted a memorial resolution on first reading honoring the late Jacqueline Tyree and extended condolences to her family.

The resolution (No. 00725), read in full at the meeting, recounts Tyree’s service as a social worker, a CETA director at the Lima Allen County Community Action Commission, a 24-year career with Sprint, and long-term neighborhood leadership. The council formally adopted the resolution on first reading after a motion to adopt was made and seconded.

Council members who spoke described Tyree as a longtime civic leader. Council President (speaker 1) said she “was the glue to neighbor association,” and recalled relying on Tyree’s guidance. Mayor Smith thanked Tyree for her mentorship and community dedication, and called her leadership ‘‘the kind of dedication I’m happy that we have in this community.’’

Family members addressed the council after the resolution. Chris Stewart, who identified himself as Tyree’s only child, thanked the council and mayor for honoring his mother: “I’ll also like to thank the mayor for honoring her when she passed away. That meant a lot to me and my family.” His daughter, Asia Tyree, gave an extended tribute describing Tyree’s courage and lifelong commitment to service: “To the city of Lima, thank you for seeing her. Thank you for acknowledging what so many of us already knew.”

The resolution details Tyree’s contributions to local organizations, awards recognizing her service, and her role mentoring youth. Council members and family members agreed the memorial is intended to recognize Tyree’s decades of civic engagement and community impact.

The council proceeded with remaining agenda items; there was no additional action recorded on the memorial during this meeting.
