Planning commission recommends approval for family cemetery at 138 East Watts Road

The Lincoln County Planning Commission voted unanimously Oct. 14 to recommend approval of a conditional use permit for a private family cemetery on property owned by Patrick and Jestine Irish at 138 East Watts Road.
County Planner Judy Clark told the commission the applicants want the site established for family-only interments and memorials, saying the family has already placed a memorial there and recently buried a son adjacent to his niece. Patrick Irish requested the permit during the public hearing and said the family intends to keep the property in the family and is working to secure an access easement.
The request applies to land described as part of the NE 1/4 of Section 29, Township 12 N, Range 30 W of the 6th P.M., Lincoln County, Nebraska, which is zoned I-1 (Industrial). Clark said the applicants do not intend commercial use and that the proposal would not increase traffic.
Clark also reported she received two phone calls from nearby property owners Marty Tobiasson and Ron Tobiasson indicating opposition to the application. No public speakers appeared in person in opposition during the minutes recorded for the hearing.
After the public hearing was closed, Commissioner Roger Merritt moved and Commissioner Mitch Moorhead seconded adoption of Resolution CU25-004 "A," which recommends approval of the conditional use permit. The resolution records three factual findings cited by the commission: that the application complies with current Lincoln County Zoning Regulations, complies with current Lincoln County Subdivision Regulations, and conforms with the Lincoln County Comprehensive Plan and zoning map. The motion passed on a roll call vote with eight Ayes (Roggow, Merritt, Moorhead, Edwards, Flaming, Pederson, Boden, Friesen), no Nays, and three members absent (Eickhoff, Davies, Miller).
