City manager outlines Citizens Academy, traffic‑unit results and planning changes

John also said Parks & Recreation’s reservation center issue that prevented bookings past May has been fixed, and reminded residents that dog-tag sales remain available (cash only at city hall). On public safety, he reported the traffic services unit — currently two assigned officers — has recorded 1,237 traffic stops, 441 citations and 83 crash investigations since mid‑2025. He said the city plans to add three additional patrol officers this year to the broader patrol cadre.
On planning, staff reported that QT has withdrawn its zoning‑variance and basic development plan application for a local site, removing that item from active review and opening the property for other prospective businesses. Planning staff said the moratorium discussed earlier remains in place for future applications.
The manager said the Citizens Academy selection was competitive (44 applicants) and that staff tried to balance participants geographically. He said the academy is intended as a sustained outreach and orientation to city operations, not a one‑off event.
The work session included several clarifying requests from council members: staff agreed to provide projected income‑tax revenue estimates tied to upcoming developments at a future meeting and to return with any web‑traffic or nomination metrics for commission outreach efforts when available.
The council moved the item along; no formal action was required at the work session.
