Solid Waste director warns of monitoring costs and reports wrong trailer delivery; fee increases proposed

Chris Stahl, director of Macon County Solid Waste, gave an overview of department facilities, revenues and capital projects during the county’s June 8 budget work session. Stahl said the proposed FY2023-24 budget includes requests for some fee increases and cautioned that additional mandated groundwater monitoring could require further funding requests during the upcoming fiscal year.
Stahl also discussed capital projects funded from the enterprise fund and other funding sources. When Commissioner Shearl asked about new trailers ordered in the current fiscal year, Stahl said the trailers had been ordered but the wrong one was received and replacements are awaited.
Stahl and Commissioner Shearl briefly discussed recycling-center hours, signage and operational restrictions. The board did not vote on solid-waste fee changes at the meeting.
