Social Services expects ~3,239 new Medicaid enrollees; plans hires and notes foster care rate change

Patrick Betancourt, director of the Macon County Department of Social Services, told the Board of Commissioners during the June 8 work session that Medicaid expansion is expected to bring roughly 3,239 new enrollees to the county. Betancourt said the state will provide additional funding that will allow the department to hire three additional Income Maintenance Workers to manage the increased caseload.
Betancourt also said an increase in the foster care reimbursement rate is scheduled to take effect July 1, 2023. He reported that the department currently has 23 licensed foster families and 75 children in custody.
The board did not act on funding requests at the meeting; commissioners asked for further review of the overall budget prior to any vote.
