Paragonah adopts short-term rental ordinance; board approves appointments and park improvements

The Paragonah Town Board approved Ordinance 26-2 on Feb. 11, adding short-term rentals and bed-and-breakfast inns as a conditional use in the town's RE (Residential Estate) zone along with qualifying regulations and conditions. Mayor Dakota Veater moved to approve the ordinance after prior amendments and a public hearing; the motion was seconded by Mike Abbott and passed with all board members present voting in favor.
In the same meeting the board reappointed Kevin Guyton to the Planning Commission and appointed Cobe Evans and John Dalton to the Water Board, removing Robert Almont. Both appointments were made by motion and approved unanimously. Mike Abbott noted that Evans and Dalton work for Parowan City and are familiar with water issues.
Under the mayor’s report the board voted to advertise for closed bids on an old merry-go-round and a street sweeper and to open the bids at the next Town Board meeting. The board also approved purchasing two new basketball hoops and stencils/paint for the park (total cost quoted at under $1,500), with local volunteers helping with stenciling and paint.
Other business included cemetery maintenance scheduling and a public comment from resident Kaylynn Miller about water access for a pending building permit; the board instructed her to submit a pre-building permit application and said town staff would inspect a capped line for possible reconnection. The board adjourned after approving bills and reviewing financial statements.
