The Avery County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 9 adopted two administrative resolutions, one restating and amending the county’s tipping fee ordinance and another clarifying term lengths for members of the Avery County District A Tourism Development Authority.
The resolutions, moved and seconded during the meeting and approved by all four commissioners in attendance, cited state statutory authority. The tipping-fee resolution references N.C. Gen. Stat. §§ 153A-45 and 153A-292 and notes the county’s original ordinance was enacted in 1998 and that operating costs have since increased; the Board voted to restate and amend the ordinance to reflect current costs. The tourism-resolution change adds language that, after initial appointments, members “shall be appointed every three (3) years to serve for a three year term, commencing on August 1 and expiring on July 31.”
Commissioners did not debate alternative fee amounts or the TDA language at length; both motions passed unanimously, 4-0. The resolutions will be recorded in the Avery County Register of Deeds as stated in the adopted documents.
The Board handled both items as part of its regular agenda and did not take public comment specifically on these measures during the meeting.
