Vaya Health briefs Avery County commissioners on Medicaid enrollment, warns of state funding gaps

A representative of Vaya Health told Avery County commissioners on Aug. 4 that Vaya manages public Medicaid-funded services and reported local enrollment counts and pending state funding concerns.
Dustin Burleson of Vaya Health said there are 683 individuals on Medicaid Direct in Avery County and 312 enrolled in the Tailored Plan, totaling 995 individuals served locally. He reported that the North Carolina General Assembly’s budget process remained underway and identified key concerns: no funding for the Healthy Opportunities Pilot, no new Innovations Waiver slots, no TBI waiver slots proposed for expansion, and proposed reductions tied to single-stream funding. Burleson also noted that N.C. Department of Health and Human Services announced Blue Cross Blue Shield will be the single health plan serving some youth and families involved in the child-welfare/foster-care system.
No board action was taken on the briefing; commissioners in attendance received the report and continued with other agenda items.
