Jennifer Christiansen took the oath of office at the beginning of the Dec. 9 meeting and later cast her first council vote approving the consent agenda.
The council also approved a slate of planning commission appointments and reappointments. The mayor recommended appointing Trent Williams to complete a term ending Dec. 2026 and Gregory Allen to finish the seat vacated by Christiansen through Dec. 2028; Dave Jones and Chad Hansen were reappointed through Dec. 2028. A council member moved to approve the mayor’s recommendations, a second was recorded, and the appointments passed by roll call.
Earlier in the meeting City Manager Trevor presented commemorative remarks recognizing the service of outgoing Mayor Brandon (named in the remarks) and councilmember Gary Tyler, praising their leadership and presenting plaques for their service to the community. The manager said both leaders had guided the city through development agreements, a general plan update and budget decisions and thanked them for their contributions.
The city also introduced Katie Stroben as the new communications staff member who will handle social media, newsletters and web updates.
What’s next: New planning commissioners will assume duties as specified by their appointment terms; the communications hire will begin outreach work and staff will coordinate plaques and photographs associated with the recognitions.
