Grove City Council completed routine organizational business at its meeting, approving committee changes, accepting the mayor's financial report and hearing closing remarks from several members.
Council voted to swap committee assignments, moving Ms. Burrows to chair the Safety Committee and Ms. Anderson to the Parks Committee. The motion to amend committees passed on roll call.
Administration staff presented the mayor's financial report and reported mayor's‑court bonds, waivers and court costs for December totaled $43,695.10; council moved to accept that report and recorded an approving roll call. City administration (Mr. Bozzo) welcomed new and returning council members on behalf of the mayor and the administration and invited members to contact staff as needed.
Council also noted a new art exhibit in the council chambers (items for sale) and reviewed organizational housekeeping: seating changes, committee assignments and an orientation process for new council members. Several members offered closing remarks welcoming new colleagues. One councilor representing Ward 5 urged the body to ensure Grove City remains welcoming to immigrant neighbors and called out recent rhetoric targeting the Somali community; the council acknowledged the comment and closed the meeting. A council retreat to prioritize objectives was scheduled for February.
