Councilmember Omar and others emphasized commitment to marginalized residents and called for both community safety and protecting civil rights. Mayor Richard Ike Stage said the language was resubmitted to avoid making the resolution broader than necessary.
Council did not take a final vote on the resolution tonight; public comments and council responses indicate staff and council will continue to refine the language before it returns to a future meeting.
