Nemaha County Board of Equalization elects officers, approves motor-vehicle tax exemptions

At its Jan. 22 organizational meeting the Nemaha County Board of Equalization elected Bryan Mellage chair and Larry Holtzman vice chair for 2020, approved multiple motor-vehicle tax-exemption applications for local nonprofits and approved a set of tax-list corrections.
The Nemaha County Board of Equalization met Jan. 22 in the Commissioners Chambers. Commissioner Bryan Mellage was elected chair for 2020 and Commissioner Larry Holtzman was elected vice chair; both elections were approved by unanimous roll call votes. County Clerk Diane Johnson recorded the meeting and the board approved the Dec. 23, 2019 minutes and the meeting agenda.
The board opened a public hearing on 2020 motor-vehicle tax exemptions, noted that no members of the public attended, and closed the hearing. It approved exemption applications for nonprofit vehicles including a 2005 Ford bus for Auburn Christian Church and a series of vehicles for Good Samaritan Society Home Care of Southeast Nebraska and Good Samaritan Society–Auburn. The board also approved exemptions for Hearts United for Animals, LL Coryell & Son Park Foundation, Peru State College Foundation and St. James Lutheran Church. Each action was taken by motion, second and unanimous roll call vote.
The meeting also recorded two tax-list corrections for parcels associated with the Board of Trustees of the Nebraska State Colleges and one correction for the Teten Family Trust; all were approved by unanimous roll call votes. With no further business the board adjourned.
