Nemaha County BOE elects leadership for 2018, approves clerical tax corrections

The Nemaha County Board of Equalization held its organizational meeting on Jan. 10, 2018, at the commissioners chambers in Auburn. County Clerk Joyce Oakley called the meeting to order and announced the required open-meeting postings.
The board elected Commissioner Bryan Mellage chairman for 2018 after a nomination by Commissioner Bob Hutton and a second from Commissioner Marvin Bohling; the roll-call vote was unanimous. The board then elected Commissioner Bob Hutton vice chairman by roll-call vote.
County Assessor Mallory Lempka presented several tax-list corrections stemming from clerical errors during file transfers. The board approved each correction by motion and roll-call vote, including: 1801-01 (Gary S. Kite, added tax $2,303.88), 1801-02 (Dennis & Claudia Banks, deducted tax $2,904.92), 1801-03 (James & Nancy Kite, added tax $947.94), 1801-04 (Jim Kite, deducted tax $883.34), 1801-05 (Yvonne J. Jeanneret, deducted tax $317.96), 1801-06 (CJG Farms, deducted tax $558.20), and 1801-07 (Jay & Michael Grotrian, deducted tax $746.58).
The meeting adjourned at 9:10 a.m. after the board approved the prior meeting minutes. The clerk certified the minutes and noted that full copies are available at the county clerk’s office and on the Nemaha County website.
The next Board of Equalization meeting was scheduled for Jan. 24, 2018.
