Resident urges transparency in interim City Hall search, raises concern about broker CBRE

Boca Raton — At the May 27 council meeting, resident Jonathan Anjian voiced concern about the city’s interim City Hall search and the role of the retained consultant CBRE, saying the firm appears to represent most of the properties under consideration and urging greater transparency and negotiation to secure concessions such as free rent.
"My concern is the interim City Hall ... the consultant that this city retained, which is being CBRE, and the significant properties that they represent," Anjian told the council during public comment, arguing that dual representation could limit competition and reduce leverage in negotiations. He urged the city to make offer terms public and to negotiate concessions that could save taxpayer money.
Council asked staff to confirm whether CBRE was looking at properties it did not represent. Mr. Brown responded, "That is correct," indicating the firm had reviewed properties beyond those where it served as landlord representative. Later in the meeting Anjian returned to clarify he was not alleging ethical wrongdoing by Councilmember Wigder and said his primary concern remained transparency and getting the best deal for the city.
The council did not take formal action on the comment; staff and council members characterized the disclosure and follow-up as informational. No formal protest, audit or procurement challenge was filed during the meeting.
