Leelanau County board recommends senior services millage renewal and approves produce program
Summary
The Board recommended placing a 0.3200-mill senior services renewal and restoration on the August 4, 2026 ballot and approved a Senior Produce Program with vendor and coordinator agreements; the renewals and program recommendations passed unanimously among those present.
Senior Services Director Lena Vander Meulen asked the Board to approve a senior services millage renewal and restoration to appear on the August 4, 2026 ballot. The proposal would levy 0.3200 mills for four years covering 2026–2029. The Board recommended forwarding the millage renewal to the full Board and the recommendation passed (6–0, Wessell absent).
Vander Meulen also presented a Senior Produce Program package including a market vendor agreement and a market coordinator–farmer agreement and requested authorization for the County Administrator to sign agreements with individual market vendors. The Board recommended forwarding the program and it passed (6–0).
Vander Meulen announced the Senior Services Senior Expo will take place on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
Both items will proceed to the regular session for final Board action and public notice as required for ballot placement.
