The Boca Raton City Council unanimously approved April 22 a resolution to extend the legal existence of the city's Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) through Sept. 30, 2043.
City staff explained the timing: the Florida Legislature was considering legislation (Senate Bill 1242) that could restrict future CRA extensions unless action was taken by May 1. To preserve long-term redevelopment authority for downtown projects, staff recommended adoption now. The resolution was adopted without public comment and passed 5-0.
City staff said there is no fiscal impact to adopting the extension itself; adopting the measure preserves the city's ability to implement long-term redevelopment strategies under current state law.
Council members thanked staff and the city attorney for acting quickly to place the item on the agenda and noted the extension is a precaution in case state law changes.
