County approves bridge signage purchase to meet state load-rating requirements

Pacific County commissioners approved purchase of bridge signage to comply with state load-rating guidance during their Oct. 14 meeting.
The Department of Public Works requested the purchase from Oregon Corrections Enterprises to meet WA-105 load-rating signage updates. The board approved the expenditure of $10,866 plus tax and all applicable fees to be paid from the county road fund, noting three bids were requested and expecting a roughly month-long turnaround to install signs that indicate permitted truck configurations and turning clearances.
Public Works staff explained the work responds to new state requirements for signage placement at bridges and certain intersections to ensure truck drivers have adequate turning distance before bridges. Staff said they are coordinating with WSDOT and Sergeant Engineers (the county’s bridge inspector) on sign placement and timing. The board agreed the procurement was timely and approved the motion by voice vote.
The purchase was approved subject to adequate budget appropriations; staff noted they would aim to meet a 30-day timeline but that some delays were possible.
