Pacific County board files preliminary FY2026 budget, schedules workshops and cites clean audit

The Pacific County Board of County Commissioners on Oct. 6 voted to acknowledge the filing of the preliminary fiscal year 2026 budget and announced a schedule of public workshops leading to a targeted adoption date of Dec. 1.
At a brief public hearing, Mr. Pockinger told the board the session was "the first step in the fiscal year 2026 budget process in accordance with RCW 36.40.060," emphasizing the filing recognizes estimates and requests submitted by elected officials and department managers but does not establish spending limits or appropriations. "Again, to be clear, the board this morning is not setting aside any budget appropriations," he said.
Mr. Pockinger also noted the county's fiscal standing: "As of this morning, looking at the State Auditor's Office website regarding financial health of counties, there are currently five counties in the state of Washington that are deemed in good financial health. Pacific County is one of those five." He added that Pacific County received a clean financial and federal grant audit for the seventh consecutive year.
Officials encouraged in-person attendance at a calendar of FY2026 budget workshops beginning that morning at 9:00 a.m. in the courthouse annex, citing past disruptions to virtual meetings: "In previous budget years, we have been Zoom bombed with explicit pornographic material," Mr. Pockinger said, and the board said it would return primarily to in-person workshops.
After Mr. Pockinger moved to acknowledge the filing, the chair seconded. The chair called for the voice vote and recorded at least one "aye" on the record; the motion was declared concluded. The transcript notes that Commissioner Tobin was out of town and not present for the vote. The board closed the hearing at 08:36.
The filing is a procedural step under state law and does not enact appropriations; the board will consider budget details and any formal adoption at later public meetings and at the scheduled adoption hearing in early December.
