Tift County picks consulting firms to support CDBG grant applications

Tift County commissioners on March 2 unanimously approved contracts to hire consulting firms to support a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application.
County Manager Jim Carter told the board that the county issued separate requests for proposals on January 21, 2026 — one for administrative services and one for engineering services — and received five proposals for each solicitation. A three-person review committee made up of Public Works Director Jason Jordan, County Manager Jim Carter and County Clerk Miriam Jordan reviewed proposals and scoring worksheets and recommended Sunbelt Consulting LLC for administrative consulting and Watkins & Associates LLC for engineering design and related services for the county's proposed CDBG projects.
Commissioner Tyler Riddle moved to accept the committee recommendations and to authorize Chairman Tony McBrayer to execute the agreements. Commissioner Donnie Hester seconded the motion to hire Sunbelt Consulting LLC; the motion carried 6-0 with the chairman voting in favor. Riddle then moved to hire Watkins & Associates LLC for engineering services; Commissioner Greg Wood seconded and the motion likewise passed 6-0 with the chairman voting.
The record lists the firms that submitted proposals for administrative work as June First firm; Think and Ink Grants; Sunbelt Consulting LLC; Ambipar Witt O'Briens; and ELOS Environmental. For engineering services the proposals were from Kleinfelder; Turnipseed Engineers; Watkins & Associates LLC; Roberts Civil Engineering; and Hofstadter & Associates. The RFP issue date for both solicitations was January 21, 2026. The board did not discuss contract dollar amounts, project timelines, or specific CDBG project scopes during the called session.
After the votes the board adjourned. Commissioner Melissa Hughes was recorded as absent in the meeting minutes.
