Commission reviews draft burial-resolution and hears public pleas to protect historic cemeteries

The commission introduced Resolution 24‑28, a draft procedure addressing the disposition and burial of persons on private property. The chair said the draft author (Carl) was not present and that staff had identified one section needing additional work; an updated draft is expected next week.

Several members of the public raised related historic‑preservation concerns. Janice Hagen praised a submitted drawing for a Marcus Daley memorial and urged commissioners to consider cemetery dedications and cultural markers when deliberating the draft burial procedure. She also asked the commission to delay any vote until the absent author could participate.

Ken Rand, representing the Anaconda Restoration Association, described the association's concept for a Marcus Daley statue and said the group had not yet solicited public fundraising. "We haven't gone out to the community for any kind of financial support," Rand said, adding that the association has already invested money into planning and had options for securing long‑term care of the site, including easements or lease arrangements if the county later needed them.

Commission discussion focused on refining language and ensuring coordination with other historic groups. No final action or vote on the resolution was recorded during the session; the chair said Carl would provide a new draft the following week.
