Commissioners placed multiple spring events on the agenda and heard a parks report highlighting the economic benefits and logistical lessons from last year’s Hoosestown tournament.
Parks staff reported that last year’s tournament was well managed, with designated camping areas, patrols and cleanup crews. "It does fill up every motel room in this community… It brings a lot of money," a parks representative said, noting the event draws hundreds of visitors and benefits restaurants and local businesses.
Organizers described the St. Patrick’s Day race scheduled for March 15, saying the route runs through town and park areas and that they expect 450–600 people for the weekend. They said they will coordinate volunteer road stops with search-and-rescue and do not plan major highway closures.
For a March 17 parade proposed by the Anaconda AOH, organizers requested closing a half-block of Cherry Street for lineup and said they will coordinate with Family Dollar, police and search-and-rescue. Both the race and the parade were placed on the agenda pending certificates of insurance.
The Friends of the First PREMI Library fundraiser (Feb. 8) and a Shakespeare in the Park performance were also placed on the agenda after staff confirmed signatures; both remain pending insurance documentation.
