Tift County approves $210,556 engineering contract and indigent defense agreements, holds executive session on personnel

On the consent agenda the board approved an agreement with Watkins & Associates LLC for engineering services related to a OneGeorgia Hurricane Disaster Recovery grant for a cost of $210,556, to be funded from grant funds and TSPLOST. The board also approved a contract with John Mobley for indigent defense services in State Court for $36,000 (General Fund) and for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Court for $6,000 (grant funds). Commissioner Melissa Hughes moved to approve the consent agenda; Commissioner Tyler Riddle seconded and the motion carried 6-0.
County Manager Jim Carter stated an executive session was needed to discuss personnel. Commissioner Paul Webb moved to convene the executive session; Commissioner Melissa Hughes seconded and the motion carried 6-0. After the executive session, the board reconvened and later adjourned following a motion by Paul Webb and a second by Melissa Hughes. Chairman Tony McBrayer announced the March work session would be held Monday, March 2, 2026 at 6 p.m., a schedule change due to several commissioners traveling on the regular date.
In commissioner comments, Melissa Hughes thanked the chairman and Commissioner Paul Webb for donating socks and reminded the public of the "Sock It To 'Em" sock drive scheduled for Feb. 14 at Mott Littman Gym.
